The latest bomb from LR Groove finds the OG Tribal Brother flexing his production might over some next-level collaborations, drawing on the best of UK funky and amapiano and sporting some serious crossover potential.

‘Woza’ kicks off Let’s Groove Vol 1 with South African singer Bubz taking on the mic duties. Singing in Zulu and beckoning her lover to come join her in the dance, she positively soars over the infectious hook of LR’s production. It’s instantly clear from her honey-coated tone her roots lie in jazz and neo-soul - a voice which took her into the Top 5 of the debut season of The X Factor SA, working with Grammy winners and bona fide music legends in LA and much more besides.

‘Rider’ finds LR tapping up South African couple Wes My Meds and Giselle Human for some extra instrumental flavours, flexing violin, guitar and organ over a signature LR pattern pockmarked with needlepoint programming and mammoth low-end pressure.

Lead single ‘War Cry’ is a taut, emotive workout centred around Toya Delazy’s cool and deadly vocal turn - a fierce declaration, a refusal to be silenced. South African-rooted, UK-based singer Delazy is riding high from the recent drop of her Sheesh EP and widespread support from the likes of Jaguar (BBC Radio 1), Seanie B (BBC 1Xtra), Jamz Supernova (BBC 6 Music) and Scratchclart (NTS), and her smouldering Zulu vocal melds perfectly into the teasing lead-in of ‘War Cry’ before LR pulls a swerve into a fierce drop full of warping bass and snappy drum flexing - the perfect tune of two halves and an immersive, heads down journey taking amapiano’s measured pulse in a fresh direction.

‘Stack’ rounds the EP out as LR goes solo for a workout loaded with the tension and release synonymous with a Renk Groove drop.

Expanding the scope of his sound and the potential contained within his cross-genre club experiments, on Let’s Groove Vol 1 LR Groove once again proves why he’s at the forefront of the UK’s underground club scene.
